Injured Nyakan out as Kimanzi names match day squad

Brian Nyakan has been ruled out of the Sony Sugar clash after sustaining an ankle contusion in training.

Brian Nyakan will have to wait longer to make his Mathare United debut after being ruled out of the Round 16 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match against Sony Sugar due to an ankle injury.

Nyakan, who was signed on deadline day of the June transfer window, was optimistic of making his first appearance for the club against the millers but he sustained a knock on Tuesday 11 July that will see him sidelined for a week.

Shedding more light on the injury, team doctor Wycliffe Omom revealed that the 22 year old will not be available for selection this weekend to avoid the risk of aggravating the injury.

Contusion

“Nyakan sustained an injury on Tuesday during the afternoon session. It is so unfortunate that it occurred. It is a contusion of the left ankle which we expect him to be out for at least seven days so that means by the beginning of next week he should be back in training.

No chance

“There is no chance that he can play this weekend because for ankle injuries it’s not good to gamble. You can force him to play then he plays for a very short time and gets injured again. It is advisable to give him enough time to recover,” said Omom who holds the same capacity in the National team.

In his absence head coach Francis Kimanzi has named John Mwangi in his match day squad for the Millers’ assignment as Cliff Nyakeya and Wycliffe Kasaya also make a return after missing the Zoo Kericho match last time out due to injury.

Meanwhile Abubakar Keya and Harrison Mwendwa miss out having being sacrificed for the returning duo.
