Alwanga Dares Rupia In Golden Boot Race

After hitting his target for the season in the one all draw against Thika United on Sunday, club top scorer Clifford Alwanga has set his sights on clinching the Golden Boot at the end of the season.

Alwanga, who joined the club in January, scored his tenth goal of the season in the 66th minute to cancel out Eugene Mukangula’s first half opener.

The experienced forward is now four goals shy of the leading goal scorer, Nzoia Sugar’s Elvis Rupia. With 15 matches remaining, Alwanga believes he can surpass Rupia’s tally and emerge as the league’s top scorer.

New Target

“It feels good to have reached my initial target of 10 goals very early in the season. I have now set a new target of 15 goals which I want to work on in the next few matches.

“I will continue working hard in training because 15 matches are enough for me to overtake Rupia. It is possible with the right commitment and focus,” said an optimistic Alwanga.

With the league leaders Gor Mahia only two points ahead of Mathare United, Alwanga is keen on propelling the Slum Boys’ title challenge with better returns in front of goal.

“The team is playing well and everybody has the belief that we can do it (win the league) this season. Morale is high and personally I am motivated to help the team achieve its target by scoring as many goals as possible," he added.
