Alwanga Eyeing Double Digits Against Bandari

Clifford Alwanga wheels away in celebration in a past league match.

Mathare United top scorer Clifford Alwanga is keen to extend his tally to double digits at the Kenyatta Stadium in the Round 15 league encounter against Bandari slated for Saturday.

Alwanga, who joined the club in January from Tusker, has undergone a renaissance at Mathare United where he has netted 7 goals in 14 appearances so far.

That record is a far cry from the one goal he scored last season in less than six appearances while at Ruaraka.

Playing time

“The coaching has helped me because it is of great quality. Coach (Francis) Kimanzi believes in me and he also understands me very well. That playing time has really helped me rediscover my scoring touch,” said Alwanga.

His recent form that has seen him score three goals in the last five and he is looking forward to carry that form to the Bandari tie.

“I have had a very good week in training scoring for fun and hopefully I can translate that to tomorrow’s game,” added a confident Alwanga.

Despite being four goals shy of the leading scorer in the league--Nzoia Sugar’s Elvis Rupia—Alwanga is optimistic he can reach the dozen mark in the first leg.

“I am enjoying a good run of form and nothing is impossible at the moment. If I continue converting the chances that come my way I can even go ahead of him,” he underlined.
