Alwanga itching to relive memories of “dream debut”

Clifford Alwanga celebrates scoring against Vihiga United in the first leg clash last season at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Clifford Alwanga is eager to bring back memories of his debut for the club when Vihiga United visits the Mathare United at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Sunday.

Alwanga, who scored a brace against Vihiga United on his debut last season, has had a bright start to the 2018/19 campaign that has seen him score two goals in six starts.

Confidence

“Of course such a debut is a memorable one because it gave me a lot of confidence given that it was the first match of the season. That performance really helped me to settle and I hope I can score against them once again when the opportunity arises,” began Alwanga.

His first team place has recently been grabbed by Chris Ochieng’ who has chalked up two consecutive starts against Tusker and Kakamega Homeboyz.  However, Alwanga is not losing sleep over it.

Pressure

“It’s good that we have competition in the team. It takes pressure off me because this season unlike last year anybody can score goals. This is a short season so there is going to be a lot of rotation due to fixture congestion,” he said.

Victory over Vihiga United will see Mathare United take their tally to 23 points and Alwanga is confident that they can maintain their unbeaten record at Kasarani.

“We have been playing very well at home and the morale in the team is also high. We want to keep the momentum and extend our winning streak,” he added.
