Derby Day ends in victory for Mathare
A goal in each half from Captain Kevin Kimani and Daniel Otieno proved to be enough for Mathare United to claim a 2-1 victory against Kariobangi Sharks in the season’s second installment of the Slum Derby played at the MISC, Kasarani on Sunday.
Kimani opened the scoring in the 30th minute, taking advantage of a poor clearance from the visiting side to rifle a fierce shot into the roof of the net from just outside the area; the goal being his third of the campaign.
Otieno would add to United’s advantage 10 minutes from time, rising from the bench to finish off a superb counter attack with a close range finish in the process adding to a stellar debut campaign for the Slumboys in which he has now found the net four times.
Daniel Sakari would grab a consolation for the visitors four minutes from time.
United’s second win in the Slum Derby in eight attempts sees us remain in 10th place on the KPL standings but move up to 24 points.
The team will have a three-week break before taking to the pitch on Wednesday, January 29 against Zoo FC in Kericho.
