Harun: Rangers goal still fresh in memory
Round 8 of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) will see us play host to Posta Rangers on Friday in Machakos and the fixture against the mailmen is a special one for one Harun Junior who notched his first goal as a Mathare United player in this fixture last season.
“The goal against Posta last season is still fresh in my memory,” Harun said as the team concluded its preparations on Thursday ahead of Friday's 2pm kickoff. “It was my first goal as a slumboy, one that will be with me for a very long time.”
Receiving a rare start in that game in March, the former Shanzu United stopper who has been at the club for the last three years, thumped the ball home from inside the box after Posta had failed to cover their lines following a corner.
It was the third goal in the 3-1 victory and coincidentally was assisted by his defensive partner Andrew Juma. The two complement each other and this has made them coach Salim Ali’s preferred set-up at the back following the off-season personnel changes.
With a game in hand, Salim’s charges have amassed the same number of points (10) as have Rangers, separated only by goal difference with Sammy Omollo’s men having the edge and Harun is expecting an even tougher encounter on Friday than the one played seven months ago.
“When we last played them, Posta were struggling to beat the drop, they were low on confidence. This season however they look a much tougher opponent so we face them with a different mindset. It is going to be an exciting match-up, one that we have prepared well for.
If lightning strikes twice in the same place and I score again against them then I will be ecstatic but what is important is to do my job and help the team win tomorrow,” he added.
We go into tomorrow’s game having won the last four meetings against Rangers with only one defeat suffered in our last eight games against them.
The game will be the only one on Friday with a win set to lift us up to fourth on the standings pending other results over the weekend.
