Mathare come up short in Mombasa

Mathare United's Marvin Ongori (L) challenges Bandari FC's Hassan Abdalla for the ball during the two teams' KPL round 21 encounter played at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Saturday 22 February.

A disappointing outing at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa saw Mathare United suffer a 3-1 loss to hosts Bandari FC on Saturday in a round 21 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) fixture.

John Mwangi, earning a rare start at the tip of the attack, scored to halve the deficit in the second half but ultimately goals from Hassan Abdalla, William Wadri and Yema Mwana proved to be decisive in humid Coastal temperatures that forced two water breaks either side of halftime.

Norman Ogolla

The game also saw young leftback Norman Ogolla earn his first appearance on a matchday squad after joining the team mid-season.

The loss, which is the fifth of the campaign, leaves Salim Ali’s charges in 9th place with 29 points tied with 10th placed Posta Rangers who will provide the opposition for Mathare’s next outing on Sunday 1 March in Machakos.

Below is how the team lined-up;
