Oduor: Sharks win key to title push

Chrispin Oduor celebrates scoring in past league match at Kasarani.

Chrispin Oduor believes winning the Slum Derby will enhance Mathare United’s credentials as title contenders of the 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League.

Oduor, who is the only member of the 2008 title winning squad still playing actively, has donned he armband in all the nine matches played so far where the Slum Boys are still unbeaten. He is expected to lead from the front against recently crowned SportPesa Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Wednesday.

Confidence

“It’s always nice winning against a team that has just won a trophy, it should be something that everyone in the team wants to do. We have to win such games because it will be a big boost to our confidence moving forward,” said Oduor.

It was put to him that Mathare have conceded at least one goal in the last five and Oduor admits a clean sheet is a priority given that they have been scoring at will.

Clean sheet

“Scoring has not been a problem and it's good that we can head to matches knowing that we can get at least a goal. We have been working on our defending and a clean sheet will be a big plus for us tomorrow. If we can avoid conceding then we will carry the day,” offered the skipper.

Mathare United has picked big wins against potential title contenders notably the 1-1 draw against champions Gor Mahia and the 2-1 win over Tusker at Ruaraka.
