Omulanga stoppage time header wins it all in Awendo

Klinsman Omulanga celebrating his winner against Sony Sugar on Sunday 10 November

Klinsman Omulanga scored a 91st minute header to help seal a 3-2 win for Mathare United against Sony Sugar in a round 9 KPL fixture played on Sunday 10 November at the Green Stadium in Awendo.

After a barren opening half, the game bust into life in the second with all five goals being scored.

Chris Oduor and inform winger Daniel Otieno grabbed the other goals with Stephen Onyango and Salim Chacha netting for the Millers.

The hosts were the first to break the deadlock through Onyango’s effort inside the box after the Mathare defence had failed to deal with a corner in the 52nd minute. The lead would however last for eight minutes as Oduor grabbed his first of the season with a close range header after being found by James Kinyanjui.

Kinyanjui the provider

Kinyanjui would turn provider again for Otieno’s strike against his former side in the 66th minute as we turned the tables and seemed to cruise to the win.

Sony though were not going to roll over and buoyed by their vocal fans, rightly pulled level with five minutes remaining through a well struck freekick from Chacha.

They would have added a third almost immediately but Kevin Omundi’s left footed strike cameoff the woodwork.

They would later be made to rue the missed chance as substitutes Omulanga and Tyson Otieno combined for the winner with virtually the last kick of the game.

The win sees us move up to joint top of the standings with 17 points but that could however change by the time the round concludes.
