Posta deny Mathare win in Narok
Mathare United and Posta Rangers drew 1-1 in their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) round 22 tie played on Sunday 1 March at the Narok Stadium.
Salim Ali’s charges were on course to securing the win but conceded late in transition with 12 minutes left to play and ended up settling for the point.
Captain Chris Oduor netted his second of the season after 67 minutes, heading ho0me from close range a James Kinyanjui lofted cross. And when it looked like the points were in the bag, Rangers would strike late thorough Francis Nambute who finished off a counterattacking move.
The point earned left the two teams still tied now at 30 points with Mathare in 9th place. The first leg meeting in November also ended in a share of the spoils.
With injuries having rocked the defensive line-up with Lennox Ogutu and Harun Junior both ruled out, headcoach Salim Ali was forced to tweak it at the back and played fullback Marvin Ongori in central defence with on-loan rightback Salim Chacha earning his first start.
Below is how the team lined-up;
Starting XI: Job Ochieng (GK), Salim Chacha, Marvin Ongori, Andrew Juma, David Owino, Roy Okal, Chris Oduor, Kevin Kimani, James Kinyanjui, Daniel Otieno (88’ Tyson Otieno), Clifford Alwanga (84’ John Mwangi)
Unused subs: David Okello (GK), Norman Ogolla, Francis Omondi, Alphonse Ndonye, Klinsman Omulanga
