Salim hopes All Stars win reignites Mathare spark

Salim Ali is hoping the 4-1 win over Kisumu All Stars on Saturday 7 March can be a turning point for his team for the final 10 matches of the 2019-20 season.

After seeing his side secure an emphatic win over Kisumu All Stars on Saturday 7 March at the Misc, Kasarani, Mathare United head coach Salim Ali is hoping that the impressive result can help reignite the spark in his team after a topsy-turvy campaign thus far.

Mathare defeated All Stars 4-1 to secure the double over the league debutants and in turn climbed up to 8th on the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings with 33 points. It has been a season of ups and downs in terms of results for Salim and with the campaign approaching the business end, he is hoping that Saturday’s win can spur his charges to achieve more in the remaining 10 matches.

Good win

“It was a good win. One that the players worked tirelessly to get and I am proud of their efforts,” Salim said, “It is always good to win with a big margin as it lifts the spirits across the team. I just hope that the belief and hunger to do well will be reignited as I believe we have what it takes to scale up the log. We are capable of a top five finish or even higher if we play with the same vigor as we did against All Stars.”

Mathare have found it hard to string consecutive wins this season and have only gone back to back once.

The team will have an almost two week break before their next outing against Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru on March 18.
