Salim rues missed chances in Rangers stalemate
A 0-0 draw was the result when we faced off against Posta Rangers in round 8 of the KPL on Friday and head coach Salim Ali sees it as a case of two dropped points rather than one gained.
“We had chances, plenty of them I might say to win against Rangers but we could not quite do it at the end,” Salim noted after the game.
“We wanted to win and add on to last time out’s victory against All Stars. We have been too inconsistent and it is disappointing but we take the point and move on.”
Despite the dropped points, there were positives in the match including an impressive first start for Daniel Otieno who joined us at the start of the campaign from Sony Sugar. He featured for 57 minutes and Salim was quick to give the winger high praise for his performance.
“Not being able to get the win is frustrating but at the same time there were plenty of positives. First is that we are able to create opportunities to score. We looked dangerous when we had the ball and all I can ask now is for my strikers to pull up their socks and bury these chances when they arise.
“The second thing is that Van Persie (Otieno) showed that the belief we have in him is not misplaced. He was lively especially in the first half. He has been training hard and will for sure be an important player for us if he keeps up like this,” he said.
Friday’s game also saw another off-season signing, Lazaro Simba make his debut, coming on for the final eight minutes of the tie.
The point maintains our unbeaten start to the season and leaves us in 9th place on the log with 11 points, tied with two other teams including yesterday’s opponents.
Up next is a midweek tie on Wednesday against Gor Mahia.
