Stima claim victory with comeback win in Kisumu

Tyson Otieno tries to create space for himself in Mathare United's 2-1 loss to Western Stima on Wednesday 8 January, 2020 in Kisumu

It was a disappointing outcome at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday where Mathare United suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Western Stima.

Tyson Otieno had United in front as early as the 4th minute but goals from James Ogada (45) and Henry Onyango (72) secured all three points for the hosts.

The loss, which is United’s fourth of the season, leaves us in 9th place with 21 points after 15 rounds of play.

The game also saw leftback David Owino suffer an injury to his back after a crunch tackle from Orumchan Villa and was replaced with 15 minutes left to play.

United had Stima on the ropes for much of the opening stanza but a bad day in front of goal characterized by missed chances allowed the hosts to get back into the game and seal the win.

Attention now switches to Sunday’s Slum Derby against Kariobangi Sharks set for the NMISC, Kasarani.
